Andhra Pradesh Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (APVVP) was established w.e.f. 01/11/1986 under an act of legislation enacting an act No.29 of 1986 solely to manage secondary level hospitals in the State. 159 hospitals were developed under World Bank funding during 1995-02. They are provided with new buildings, minor & major equipment. Staff were given training in skill up-dation to better manage the hospitals and provide patient care. Subsequently some more Primary Health Centres were transferred to APVVP and developed to provide secondary care.
In Prakasam District, APVVP is having the following hospitals under it’s control.
- Three Area Hospitals at Chirala, Markapur, Kandukur
- Three Community Health Centers at Kanigiri, Giddalur, Cumbum
- Mother & Child hospital at Ongole.
The District Co-ordinator of Hospital Services (DCHS) act as the supervisory officer at district level, while individual hospitals are headed by Medical Superintendents / Medical Officers i/c.
